Historical Data by Plan
How many years of price history can I access?
Historical data depth depends on your subscription plan:
All plans include the latest monthly prices. Historical data is accessible through Online Charts on all plans. Advanced and Ultimate subscribers can also retrieve historical data through the Excel Add-In, Power BI, and the REST Web API.
Can I get more than one year of price history?
The Starter plan is limited to 1 year of price history. To access more, a higher-tier plan is required:
- Pro — 3 years of price history, plus price forecasts and multi-location access without geographic restrictions.
- Advanced — 10 years of price history, plus Excel Add-In, Power BI, and API access.
- Ultimate — 15 years of price history, plus third-party sharing rights and up to 20 users.
Plan upgrades are available at any time. The upgrade fee is the difference between the new plan fee and the prorated amount already paid for the remaining billing period.
Does historical data include multiple countries?
All subscription plans include prices across all available locations for each commodity — historical data is not location-restricted by plan tier.
The Starter plan, however, has geo-restricted access: subscribers can only access data from the country where the subscription was purchased. Pro, Advanced, and Ultimate plans have no geographic access restriction and allow data access from anywhere in the world.
Is historical data available through the API?
The REST Web API provides access to both current data and full historical archives within the subscriber's plan limits. API access is available on Advanced and Ultimate plans.
The API uses standard REST endpoints and returns JSON responses. Each request retrieves data for up to 40 series simultaneously. Historical data is included in the standard API response — there is no separate historical endpoint.
Accessing long-term price histories (10+ years) via the API requires the Tier 500 automation option. Teams with high automation needs should review the automation tier comparison when selecting a plan.
Can I pull historical data into Excel automatically?
The Intratec Excel Add-In lets you retrieve historical price data directly into Excel with a single click. The add-in is available on Advanced and Ultimate plans and works with Excel for Windows and Mac — no setup beyond installation is required.
When you refresh your spreadsheet, the add-in fetches the latest published data along with the historical series covered by your plan (10 years on Advanced, 15 years on Ultimate). Data is pulled automatically each time you request it, keeping your existing Excel models up to date without manual copy-paste.
Accessing long-term price histories (10+ years) via the Excel Add-In requires the Tier 500 automation option. The Excel Add-In is included at no extra cost in Advanced and Ultimate plan subscriptions.
Can I download historical price data as a file?
Download options vary by plan — from chart images on all plans to full spreadsheet exports on Ultimate.
Download options by plan:
- Online Charts (all plans) — Chart images can be downloaded as JPG or PNG. Data tables can be downloaded as PDF on Pro (read-only) and Advanced/Ultimate (print-enabled) plans. Starter subscribers can view charts but cannot download data as PDF.
- Excel Add-In (Advanced and Ultimate) — Retrieves historical price data directly into Excel spreadsheets automatically.
- Power BI (Advanced and Ultimate) — Pre-configured .pbix files provide access to historical data within the plan's coverage and can be customized.
- Monthly Downloadable Spreadsheets (Ultimate only) — Ready-to-use spreadsheets are uploaded monthly and available to download from the subscriber's user area.
Can I preview historical prices before subscribing?
A 1-year price history preview is available free of charge for every commodity covered by Primary Commodity Prices — no subscription or account required. This gives a direct look at the actual data format and recent price trends before committing to a plan.
A full sample is also available where all pricing features for a specific commodity can be explored interactively, including chart views, data tables, currency conversion, and unit conversion.
Intratec does not offer free trials. The 1-year preview and full sample are the primary ways to evaluate the product before purchasing. Methodologies documentation is also publicly available for those who want to understand the data sourcing and modeling approach.
